The Golden Web is a World History Internet project being developed in Cambridge UK.
The Golden Web will enable institutions, working in any language, to link their content and build a seamless world of connectivity. This will stimulate and develop interdisciplinary research and facilitate the discovery of new patterns in history. The capability of institutions to collaborate and disseminate their results through educational outreach programmes will also be greatly enhanced.
The Golden Web is being developed by The Golden Web Foundation, an educational charity registered in the UK. Whilst the project will be covering all aspects of World History, the Foundation will be encouraging, in the first instance, projects dealing with the premodern world which focus on the myriad web of relationships, cooperation, interdependence, sharing and exchange that has existed for millennia between the different peoples, cultures, civilisations, linguistic groups and religions of the world.
It is planned that The Golden Web will be launched in 2011.
